Are you feeling bright? It’s hard. It’s December and crazy busy and the answer is no, you’re probably not feeling too bright right about now. I’m not talking about the holiday spirit, either. I’m talking about that part deep inside of you that feels good when you wake up and go to work, class or otherwise.
There is such pressure to get out of school and start on the traditional job path. Then once you’re on that path, you may realize that this is not really filling you with much joy or excitement. That’s ok. That happens to a lot of us. But what you do about this feeling is entirely up to you.
One way to avoid getting to that point of desperation is to ask yourself every day what you enjoy about your day-to-day and job and what you would like to change. If you’d like to change something – what’s stopping you?
Do you want to live a life filled with experience and adventure?
I had the most amazing interview with Kelcy Fowler of CoolWorks. She has such a unique point of view on the traditional career path. CoolWorks is a company that places people in temporary work in the country’s most beautiful places. Think National Parks, Ski resorts and more.
Kelcy found a seasonal job at the Grand Teton National Park to feed her desire to get out and be productive, and it changed the course of her life. Starting as a desk agent she moved on gain year-round experience in HR. Then CoolWorks offered her a dream job. She now is a jack of all trades at CoolWorks and is super passionate about helping others find their path to find what makes them feel bright and excited about on the inside.
“The best way to find your path to contribute is by pursuing something that makes you happy and something that makes you feel fulfilled and feel bright on the inside.”
Kelcy was bright. She challenged the norms of the traditional path of college education and career path and the working world. She found a different way to be happy and to feel bright. And she’s bringing that to her job every day.
So I’m going to start asking myself every day whether or not I’m feeling bright. And if I’m not, I’m going to figure out how to change it. I encourage you to do the same.
So go out there and kick ass in your life!
